Description: This dataset represents the base of the Ogallala - Roger Mills aquifer. The elevation of the aquifer base ranges from 2,125-2,380 feet above NAVD 88. The interpretation of the base of the aquifer is based on analysis of lithologic data obtained from 353 groundwater well completion reports submitted to the OWRB by licensed well drillers. The base was recognized by a change from brown or tan sands and gravels to red shales and sandstones of the underlying Permian formations. To create the map, a point shapefile was created in ArcMap representing each well location with base elevation data (BaseElev_Wells_20171109_JS). A raster was then created using the IDW tool (Base_Elev_20171109_Jsb) to interpolate the base elevation of the aquifer across the study area. The raster was then converted to a series of contours at 25 ft. intervals (Base_Elev_20171109_Jsb) using the contour tool in ArcMap, which were then smoothed and manually adjusted by OWRB staff for clarity based on professional judgement. The contours were then converted to a raster using the Topo To Raster tool. This dataset was created as a product of the Ogallala - Roger Mills hydrologic investigation and is included here for informational purposes only.
